Charles R. “Charlie” Caldwell Jr., age 79, of Blairsville, GA, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta. Born in Fulton County on September 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Charles Roscoe Caldwell, Sr. of Tyler, Texas and Huldah Williams Caldwell of Augusta, GA. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. Later he owned and operated CC&A Materials Handling Equipment Company until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro. Charlie was an accomplished painter in watercolors, an avid fisherman and loved reading the great philosophers.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Caldwell of Athens, GA; special friends, the Irvin family of Blairsville, GA who lovingly cared for him and whose daughter Lindsey adopted Charlie as her grandfather; and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. “Chip” Caldwell, III.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Ira McKever officiating. Inurnment was at Greensboro City Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Athens Area Humane Society, 399 Beaverdam Road, Athens, GA 30605. A reception will follow the service at the Reynolds Family Home in Greensboro.
