Catherine Cofer Hancock

Catherine Elizabeth Cofer Hancock, age 87, of Union Point, GA, died Friday, October 28, 2005 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point where she had lived since 2002. Born in Wilkes County on September 15, 1918 she was the daughter of the late Major Pelham Cofer and Carrie Lou Wall Cofer. She graduated from the Normal School for Women in Athens and Clear Creek Bible School in Kentucky where she studied voice and music. She was a bookkeeper for J. R. Mosbey Attorney At Law. After marrying Rev. James Felton Hancock Sr. she was active in the ministry, singing and playing the piano and organ. She enjoyed nature especially wildlife and flowers. Mrs. Hancock was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Felton Hancock Sr. and her siblings, Wallace Cofer, George Cofer, Tucker Cofer, Thomas Cofer and Edna Atkinson. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda "B.J." Revill of Greensboro, GA; a son, James Felton "Jimmy" Hancock Jr. and wife Fran of Ellijay, GA; a sister, Cornelia "Nelia" Cofer of Athens, GA; two grandsons, James Felton Hancock III and wife Amanda of Ila, GA and Timothy Michael Hancock of Tallahassee, FL; five great grandchildren; and numerous friends and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Jimmy A. Long officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, GA. Serving as pallbearers are Rufus Paine, Dean Stewart, James Hancock III, Lamar Callaway, Jimmy Cofer and Timothy Hancock. Any memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Three Corporate Square, Suite 120, Atlanta, GA 30329.
