Cassie Akins Obituary

Cassie Lee Taylor Akins, age 81, of Greensboro, GA died Monday, February 19, 2007 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. Born in Wilkes County on August 21, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Semien Otto Taylor and Nancy Poss Taylor. She attended school in Wilkes County and Greene County. Mrs. Akins was a spinner at Mary Leila Cotton Mills and she and her husband, Buck Akins, ran a farm. She was a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church of Union Point.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Carrol "Buck" Akins in March of 1988; two sons, Joseph L. Akins and William "Billy" Akins; and siblings, Edward Taylor, Lynwood Taylor, Rollin Taylor and Vasti Worthen. She is survived by two sons, Wayne Akins and wife Diane of Greensboro, Ga and Byron Akins and wife Linda of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Mary Hansford of Gray, GA; a daughter-in-law, June Akins of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren, Holley Cooper and husband Jay, Elaine West and husband Ken , Angela Whittaker and husband Jeffrey, Janice Mize, Sandy Maxwell and husband Charles, Wanda Hunt and Jerri Ann Gregory; great grandchildren, Emma Cooper, J. W. Mize, Sarah West, Tucker West, Michael Lanier, Matthew Maxwell, Valerie Miller, Ashley Waldrep, Ashley Gregory and Brittany Gregory; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will follow in Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ceils Merritt, Jonathan "Dink" Dominy, Michael Lanier, J. W. Mize, Ken West, Terry McCannon, Mike Griffith and Joey Griffith. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
