Carolyn Moreau Obituary

Carolyn Marie McDonald Moreau, 83, of Buckhead, Georgia passed away on January 20, 2011, at Athens Regional Medical Center. For nearly 60 years Carolyn successfully fought Type 1 diabetes and in recent years valiantly battled back from broken hips with tenacity and grace. She was born Carolyn Marie McDonald on October 9, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to Duncan McDonald and Vera Maloney McDonald. She was raised in Detroit, Michigan where she graduated from Immacualta High School. In 1946, she married Harold Theodore Moreau, Sr. They made their home around Detroit in Livonia, Michigan for twenty-three years and then moved to Canton, Michigan where they lived for six years. For the last thirty years, they had lived in Georgia moving from Snellville to Lake Oconee in 1985 where they have resided in the Sugar Creek Community of Morgan County for the last twenty years. They were blessed with six children and she devoted her life to her family. Carolyn had a diversity of interests and passions. She prayed a daily Rosary to the Blessed Mother; was matriarch of the family poker games; cheered for her beloved Atlanta Braves (but not Bobby C.), Detroit Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs; enjoyed Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Dancing with the Stars; and eagerly anticipated winning the lottery with her scratch off tickets. While she did not hit the big money jackpot, she did win the love of her entire family and will be truly missed each and every day. She was a member of Christ Our King & Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro.

Mrs. Moreau is survived by a daughter: Margaret Gilliam and husband Jack of Madison, GA and five sons: John Moreau and wife Natalie of Oxford, GA, William "Bill" Moreau of Toledo, OH, Richard "Rick" Moreau and wife Sherry of Grayson, GA, Harold T. Moreau Jr. and wife Jessica of Lilburn, GA and Robert "Bob" Moreau and wife Karen of Hickory, NC; 11 grandchildren: Jessica Gilliam, Victoria Gilliam, Melissa Gilliam, John Moreau, Michael Moreau, Christopher Moreau, Renee Decatur, Michelle Moreau, Lauren Moreau, Rachel Moreau and Nathan Moreau; 9 great-grandchildren: Catherine Moreau, John Carter Moreau, Evan Moreau, Andrew Moreau, Nicholas Moreau, Alex Moreau, Brandon Decatur, Brady Decatur and Ava Moreau; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law: Ann Toppa and Arthur of Oscoda, MI and Margaret Boes and Tom of Oscoda, MI.
