Carole Clifton George

Carole Clifton George, age 63, of Greensboro, GA, died Thursday, September 22, 2005 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. George was born February 5, 1942 in Colbert, GA to Harry Repard "Jack" Clifton Sr. and the late Louise Rogers Clifton. In 1960 she graduated from Blakely High School and then attended the University of Georgia. On December 26, 1960 she married James D. "Jim" George. Having lived and raised their family in Thomasville, Albany, Tucker and Lilburn, GA, they moved to Greensboro in 1993. Along with her husband she was the owner and operator of C & J Custom Homes. While a member of First Baptist Church of Greensboro, she volunteered by preparing fellowship meals and as an instructor of English to those who speak other languages. Mrs. George was a charter member of Grace Fellowship of Greensboro where she served as a member of the Hospitality Team.

She is survived by her husband, Jim George, of Greensboro, GA; three daughters, Jelene George Mercer and husband Woody of Crossville, TN, Lynne George Payne of Duluth, GA, and Lisa George Cochran and husband David of Suwanee, GA; father, Jack Clifton and stepmother, Janis Lowe Clifton of Blakely, GA; three sisters, Candy Clifton Hatfield of Blakely, GA, Carla Clifton Owen and husband Glen of Augusta, GA and Merritt Clifton Logan and husband Chuck of Albany, GA; a brother, Harry Repard Clifton Jr. and wife Jan of Leesburg, GA; six grandchildren, Meghan Mercer, Jana Payne, Caroline Mercer, Kent Cochran, Clay Cochran and Brett Cochran and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday night at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro, GA. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro, GA with Rev. Jimmy A. Long officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Rick Ward, David Torbert, Gerald Torbert, Jason Godbee, Jim Cox and Ham Cornett. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Bob Christian, Tom Robinson, John Demorest, Tom Ertel, Tim Hong, Bob Aldrich, Ralph Danson, Bobby Voyles, Wallace Patton and Paul Abernathy.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home in Blakely, GA. A Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy A. Long officiating. Interment will follow at Blakely Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Tommy Bell, Charles Bush, Warren Baxley, Bobby McLendon, Tommy Clifton and Stan Houston.
