Carl Patrick McGarity of Atlanta, GA, died at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta on Friday, April 26, 2013. He was 66. A native of Greene County, GA, he was born in White Plains on May 27, 1946 to the late Carl Milton and Louise Hart McGarity. He attended elementary school in Siloam, graduated from Greensboro High School in 1964 and attended Georgia State University. From 1966 to 1968, he served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. Most of his career was spent with Trust Company of Georgia as bookkeeper and working his way up to internal auditor. For a while he returned to Greene County where he worked for The Farmers Bank as a manager and Hometown Manufacturing Co., Inc. as the plant accountant. In later years he worked for Murphy Oil USA, Inc., Chevron and Photo Express in management positions until 2008, when he retired because of his health. Seven years ago he moved to Atlanta from Athens. Patrick had a variety of interests including reading, fishing, travelling and watching tv, especially Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, where he excelled in knowing most of the answers. He was a quiet, easy going and agreeable person who got along with everybody. Patrick was an organ donor in hopes that he would be able to help the quality of someone else''s life. He was a member of Siloam United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Don Channell of Siloam, GA; a special friend, Hammond English; and several cousins.
A Graveside Service will be held, Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Siloam Cemetery, Church Street, Siloam, GA 30665 with Rev. Bert Mathews officiating.
