Calvin Griffith

Calvin Griffith Calvin Griffith, age 76, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Friday, December 30, 2005 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point, GA. Born in Conecuh County, Alabama on April 19, 1929 he was the son of the late Millard Hart Griffith and Bessie Lee Horton Griffith. He attended school in Woodville and Union Point. At the age of 18, Calvin joined the United States Army and served for twenty years. During his tour of duty, he was in the Korean Conflict and served in Japan, New Orleans and Georgia. He worked for Lena Hy Garment Company as a cutter and retired from Universal Rundle in Union Point as a maintenance man. Later, he became a supervisor for community service for Greene County and was a bailiff at the Greene County Court House. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Lois Stone Griffith; two sisters, Mildred G. Edmonds and Helen G. Chalker; and a brother, M. H. Griffith. He is survived by a very dear friend, Freida Shurling of Greensboro, GA; four nieces, Jeanette Johnson of Union Point, GA, Sandra Johnson of Kennesaw, GA, Brenda Edwards of White Plains, GA and Zexia Griffith of Florida; six nephews, Billy Mize of Leesville, SC, Millard Mize of Royston, GA, Larry Mize of Mayfield, GA, Gerald Mize of Conyers, GA, Hubert Mize of Greensboro, GA and Millard H. Griffith of Donella, FL; and a number of other relatives and friends. Graveside Services, with military honors by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. at Greensboro City Cemetery with Rev. Colin Duncan officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Johnny Johnson, Millard Mize, Billy Mize, Hubert Mize, Don Ellis and Jim Edwards. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
