Burton C. Gerber, 94, passed away at Athens Regional Medical Center on April 3, 2002. Born July 4, 1907 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Arthur U. Gerber and Hattie J. Gerber. He had two brothers, Jack Gerber and Ellery F. Gerber both deceased and married Virginia S. Gerber. He was a licensed engineer in the state of Illinois and a life member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was the president and owner of Burton C. Gerber & Associates, Inc., general building contractors of industrial and commercial buildings in Chicago and Environs for twenty six years. He retired and moved to Briarcliffe Acres, South Carolina in 1975. He lived there for twenty-six years and served as building commissioner for nineteen years. He and his wife Virginia moved to Reynolds Plantation of Greensboro in the year 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; a son, Burton N. Gerber and wife Lynn of Greensboro, Georgia; a daughter, Barbara A. Marcus and husband Marvin of Dayton, Ohio; six grandsons and four great grand children.
He will be buried in the Ridgewood Cemetery, Desplaines, Illinois. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
