Robert Franklin Cooper Jr., age 77, of the Liberty Community, died Friday, February 4, 2005 at St. Mary''s Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Born April 18, 1927 he was the son of the late Robert Franklin Cooper, Sr. and Sadie Belle Bailey Cooper. Bob grew up in Braselton, GA and was a graduate of Piedmont College in Demorest where he is a member of the Sports Hall of Fame for basketball and baseball. He earned his Masters and Education Specialist Degrees at the University of Georgia. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. He was a teacher and coach at Union Point High School and Jackson County High School. He served as Principal in Jackson, Washington and Gwinnett Counties. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Ruark Cooper of the Liberty Community; his children, Susan Cooper of Rome, GA and Sheryl and Howard Scott of Rome, GA; three grandchildren, Chris Bailey, Janna Lemus and David Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Phillips and Rev. Gary Nicholas officiating. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Reid Mullins, Larry Cole, Ronnie Hill, Victor Stewart, Edward Corry, Keith Mulford, Henry Braselton, James W. "Duck" Channell and Craig Bell. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Liberty United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Ann Smith, 2491 Shiloh Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 or Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, 401 Zion Church Road, Braselton, GA 30517.
