Billy Ray Hammond
Billy Ray Hammond, of Greensboro, GA, died on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at the age of 63. A lifelong resident of Greensboro, he was born on October 11, 1952, and was the son of the late Benjamin Edgar Hammond and Daisy Nell Hubbard Hammond. He attended Greensboro High School and married Victoria Shelton on February 8, 1975. Billy Ray was the owner and operator of Billy Ray Hammond Maintenance and Lawn Care which he was still operating at the time of his death. He was a member of Walker United Methodist Church. Billy Ray raised cows, enjoyed westerns and working with his tractors. He had a great personality and enjoyed telling stories. Billy Ray never met a stranger and always had something funny to say. His signature everyday look was his coonskin hat.
Besides his wife of nearly 41 years, Vikki Hammond of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by two sons, Matthew Hammond (Stacy) of Greensboro, GA and Joseph Hammond of Macon, GA; daughter, Crystal Young of Greensboro, GA; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hammond of Suwanee, GA; sister, Nell King of Madison, GA; two grandchildren, Aiden Young and Emily Grace Hammond; a number of other relatives and many, many friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Adrian Hammond; sister, Linda Dale Hammond; and two brothers, Benjamin Arthur Hammond and Horace Edgar Hammond.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. John Pike officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Kent Walker, Jimmy Callaway, Mark Jordan, William Evans, Steve Pinson and Chris Staford. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
