Betty Patterson Obituary

Betty Jo Vandiver Patterson, age 70, of Greensboro, GA, died Friday, November 9, 2007 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in Hall County on January 13, 1937 she was one of twelve children born to the late Hoyt S. Vandiver Sr. and Mary Lois Bryant Vandiver. When Betty was three years old, the family moved to Greene County. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1955 and married Robert Julian Patterson on July 18, 1964 in McCormick, SC. After high school she was a seamstress for Lena Hy Garment Company, Stewart Apparel and Hometown Manufacturing. Her last job was working as a merchandiser for American Greeting Cards. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband of forty three years, Robert Julian Patterson, of Greensboro, GA, she is survived by a daughter, Kim Gunn and husband Joel of Greensboro, GA; sisters, Jeannette Veal and husband Walter of Rutledge, GA, Kathryn Melson and husband Walter of Crawfordville, GA, Carolyn Batson and husband Donald of Eatonton, GA and Linda Hutto of Cartersville, GA; brothers, Thomas Vandiver, Sr. and wife Geraldine of Greensboro, GA, Louie L. Vandiver and wife JoAnn of Greensboro, GA, Marion Vandiver and wife Faye of Eatonton, GA, Jerry S. Vandiver and wife Connie of the Liberty Community, and Darrell Vandiver and wife Kay of Greensboro, GA; two grandchildren, Hannah Gunn and Joshua Gunn; and a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hoyt S. "June" Vandiver, Jr. and William Jarrell "Bodie" Vandiver.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Greensboro City Cemetery with Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Doc Gunn, William Vandiver, Jody Vandiver, Jack Melson, John Lewis and Alan Vandiver.
