Betty Jo Smith Malcom, age 76, of Madison, GA, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Born on June 12, 1934, she was the daughter and the last of eight children born to the late Thomas Vernon Smith and Edna Smith, both of Tennessee. She started school in Cleveland, TN and later attended high school in Detroit, MI. She married in Bowling Green, Ohio on December 18, 1948. She was a homemaker and a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church of Madison, GA. Betty Jo was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed being with her family and friends.
She is survived by five daughters, Brenda Smith Bryan and husband David of Madison, GA, Cindy Smith and husband Steve of Madison, GA, Barby Riffle and husband Richard of Ft. Campbell, KY, Vicky Vanwhy and husband Jerry of Madison, GA and Rhonda Bumgarner and husband Tommy of Madison, GA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; her companion of thirty-five years, Johnny Beatty; a number of other relatives and friends; and her beloved pets, Heidi and Gypsy. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth Newport, Helen Skillian, Polly Crawford, Bob Smith, Raymond Smith, Walter Smith and Gilbert Smith.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow at Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 1000 Sugar Creek Church Road, Madison, GA 30650. Serving as pallbearers are Jamie Sears, Brian Mitchell, Lance Smith, Jed Smith, Justin Vanwhy and James Vanwhy. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
