Betty Downs Ethridge Durepo
Betty Downs Ethridge Durepo passed away on July 23, 2015, at the age of 78 following a long period of declining health. Betty was born in Athens, Georgia on September 6, 1936, to the late Asa Lloyd Downs and Henrietta Poole Downs. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Kent M. Durepo and Linnis E. Ethridge. Betty’s survivors include three daughters: Edith E. Brown and husband Tab of Danielsville, GA, Myra E. Stewart and husband Ken of Siloam, GA, and Andrea D. Ethridge of Marietta, GA; two grandsons: Tyler and Cole Stewart of Siloam, GA; a sister: Carol D. Ivie and husband Charles of Watkinsville, GA; and many nieces, cousins, and dear friends.
Betty grew up in Athens, Georgia where she graduated from University High in 1954, Young Harris in 1956, and the University of Georgia in 1958 with a degree in Home Economics. Betty’s working career included Georgia Power, Athens Tech, Patchwork Junction, the Calico Patch and Greene County DFACS. Betty was gifted in sewing, gardening, cooking, quilting, painting and doing crafts.
She was a member of Covington First Baptist Church and attended Greensboro First Baptist Church. She enjoyed participating in the Garden Club and Cotton Boll Quilt Guild while in Covington, GA.
During the last few years her medical needs were excellently administered by the caring and skilled staff of Boswell-Parker Health and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. David Bridwell officiating. The Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
