Bertha Wojnas Obituary

Bertha Wojnas passed away quietly at home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in Greensboro, GA. She was the loving wife of Walter who preceded her in death in 2000. She is survived by her son Thomas Wojnas and his wife Mary, of Greensboro, GA, daughter Marie Delich and son-in-law David of Greensboro, GA, and daughter Patricia Wojnas of Washington DC. She is also predeceased by her son Richard. She enjoyed 94 magnificent years of life and leaves behind a legacy of three grandchildren Jennifer Minich, Allison Kucinski and Meredith Gerdeman, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous friends from her church, her neighborhood and her community service work.

Born in Wallington, NJ, Bertha lived with her husband in Newark, NJ for 22 years while raising their children. They then moved to Somerset, NJ where she enjoyed involvement in St Matthias Church activities, the senior community and entertaining family and friends for 38 years. She moved to Georgia in 2011 to be near her son and oldest daughter.

She "retired" from Western Electric, Kearney in 1951 and stepped into a role she loved with a passion - that of a mother and homemaker. After her husband''s retirement they enjoyed years of travel taking many exciting trips that included cruises through the Panama Canal, Alaska and Caribbean along with steady visits to family around the country. She was proud of her Polish heritage and shared that love along with culinary skills with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was well known as a skilled seamstress sewing everything from her own clothes, her daughter''s wedding dress, Halloween costumes, and many beautiful outfits for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Recently she began sewing preemie gowns for Threads of Love which brought her a great deal of joy and satisfaction. Her gardens and plants were proud examples of her green thumb, a love and skill that she imparted on her two daughters. She also enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans for her family and friends as well as for charities such as the Linus Program.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 12 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St, Somerset. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 13 10:30 AM at St Matthias, 168 John F Kennedy Blvd, Somerset.
