Bertha Kate Askew Ashley, age 89, of Greensboro, GA, died Friday, July 7, 2006 at Oconee Regional Medical Center in Milledgeville. Born in Greene County, GA on April 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late William Clarence Askew and Annie Ruth Mullins Askew. She attended school at Meadowcrest and was an inspector for Lena-Hy Garment Company. Mrs. Bertha was a faithful member of Walker United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Roger Ashley in May of 1998; and her siblings, Fannie Park, Lorine Burnette, Jane Kimbrough, Hale Askew, Griffin Askew, Reid Askew and Joe Askew. She is survived by a son, Lewis Ashley and wife Shirley of Greensboro, GA; a granddaughter, Dean Griffin and husband Harold of Buckhead, GA; a grandson David Ashley and wife Jeanie of Greensboro, GA; three great grandchildren, Josh Griffin, Chris Griffin and Nicki Ashley; a great great grandchild; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Walker United Methodist Church of Greensboro with Rev. John Pike and Rev. Brenda Trammell officiating. Interment will follow at Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Farrett Boswell, George Boswell, Cotton Boswell, Ray Copelan, Deleon Walker, Comer Tolbert, Clint Patrick and Jeff Smith.
