Bernice Bernhardt Myrick of Hickory, NC and formerly of Augusta and Greensboro, GA passed away on May 9, 2006. Born October 2, 1911 she was the oldest of four children born to the late Charles Henry and Essie Kate McMichael Bernhardt in Greene County, GA. While attending Southern Shorthand and Business University in Atlanta she met her husband, James Richard Myrick and they were married in 1929. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro, GA. She was also a member of the Pilot Club of Augusta and Greensboro, GA, Greensboro Woman''s Club, Wayside Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, a charter member of the Historical Society of Greene County and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class of Greensboro First Baptist Church. Her love for her family was so special. She enjoyed cooking for them and knowing their whereabouts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Myrick; an infant brother Charles Hillman Bernhardt; a brother James Legare Bernhardt; a sister Winifred B. O''Neal; and her son-in-law, J. L. Brown. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Dr. Owen K. Youles of Valdosta, GA, a daughter, June M. Brown of Decatur, GA, a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Dr. T.W. Brooks, III of Hickory, NC, a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and The Rev. David C. Jones of Columbia Falls, MT; four granddaughter''s, Kathryn E. Youles of Sylvania, GA, Jennifer Y. Dorn of N. Augusta, SC, Vanessa Brooks of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Hillary W. Alonzo of Ogden, UT; five grandson''s: Owen K. Youles of Falls Church, VA, Charles R. Youles of Alexandria, VA, Thomas W. Brooks, IV of Atlanta, GA, Stephen B. Brooks of Hickory, NC, and Jay E. Brown of Knoxville, TN; and seven Great Grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Greensboro City Cemetery with The Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at McCommons Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Owen K. Youles III, Charles R. Youles, Thomas W. Brooks, IV, Stephen B. Brooks, Jay E.
