Barbara Jones Kimbrough, age 74, of Greensboro, Georgia died peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Athens Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hall County in a log cabin on December 23, 1935, she was the daughter of Thelma Patterson Jones of Greensboro and the late Henry Grady Jones. She attended Greensboro High School and later received her GED when she was in her forties by attending night school. While raising her family, she earned a Bachelor of Science from Georgia College in Milledgeville. Barbara did her student teaching at Morgan County High School and later taught art there for fifteen years. She went on to receive a masters of Art Education from the University of Georgia. She also taught at Georgia Military College Satellite Campus in Madison. She was a member of the board at Steffen Thomas Museum where she taught the family workshops.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, James Robert "Bobby" Kimbrough of Greensboro, GA; two daughters, Paige Bridges and Chris Janes of Greensboro, GA, Joanna Ralston and husband Kyle of Greensboro, GA, three sons, Mike Black and wife Renee of Eatonton, GA, Rob Kimbrough and wife Christy of the Liberty Community, and Mitchell Kimbrough and Karen Padgett of Greensboro, GA; three sisters, Stella Faye Jones Burt of Fort Payne, AL, Reba Joyce Jones Walker of Milledgeville, GA, Thelma June Jones of Rayle, GA; one brother, Henry Donald Jones of Milledgeville, GA; grandchildren, Peyton "Petey" Goss, J. R. Kimbrough, Cory Kimbrough, Autumn Ralston, Nakia and Tori Black, Jamie Martin, Trick Martin, Tara Black, Christopher Bridges, Brandan Bridges, Bryan Cartrett, Tasha and Buck Wimberly and Chris Knowles; ten great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by siblings, Robert Wayne Jones, Phillip Grady Jones and Thomas Patterson Jones.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Steffen Thomas Museum, 4200 Bethany Road, Buckhead, GA 30625, www.steffenthomas.org, 706-342-7557.
