Augusta Freeman Obituary

Augusta Champion Freeman, age 96, of Dalton, Georgia, formerly of Siloam, Georgia, died Friday, February 5, 2010 at Royal Oaks Retirement Community in Dalton, Georgia. She was a member of the Madison Seventh Day Adventist Church in Madison, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Grafton Freeman and a sister, Margaret Sligh of Jonesboro, Georgia.

At a very early age Augusta''s mother died and she was reared by her late uncle, William Augustus Champion and aunt, Mattie Ada Champion. Survivors include her daughter, Valerie Freeman Jackson and son-in-law Dr. James Larry Jackson of Dalton, Georgia; two grandchildren, Cheri J. Holden and husband Paul Holden of Calhoun, Georgia and Laurie J. Liles and husband Chip Liles of Chattanooga, Tennessee; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Augusta graduated from the University of Georgia and taught school for 20 years in the Greene County School System.

Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Siloam Memorial Cemetery, Siloam, Georgia with Dr. Greg Harper officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.
