Arthur Wesley Coker

Arthur Wesley “Buddy” Coker, age 82, of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Augusta. Born in Sycamore, Georgia on December 28, 1927, he was the son of the late Cone Edward Coker and Ruth Swain Bussey Coker. He grew up and attended school in Sycamore, GA, where he was known as Wesley. On June 2, 1956, he married the former Beatrice Evelyn “Bea” Glaze, who gave him the nickname of Buddy. For two years he served his country in the United States Army, during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of A. W. Coker Grading and Hauling. He had a lifelong passion for flying and owned his own airplanes. Buddy was a true outdoorsman who really enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville and a former member of the Sardis Masonic Lodge #444 in Chamblee, GA and currently a member of the Sycamore Masonic Lodge #210 in Ashburn, GA. Buddy and his wife, Bea, had lived in Greensboro for the last ten years. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Evelyn “Bea” Glaze Coker of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Stacy Chamblee and husband Russell of Hoschton, GA; a son Richard Coker and wife Cathy of Snellville, GA; a brother, Herbert Russell Coker and wife Dot of Sycamore, GA; six grandchildren, Sandra Coker, Wesley Coker, Travis Coker, Heather Coker, Austin Chamblee and Aaron Chamblee; and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Eunice Rainey, Lewis Coker, Hazel Wells, Tid Christian, Jane Wheeler, Mary Lee Armstrong, Roy Coker and GordonCoker. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, (Greshamville), Madison, GA 30650 with Rev. Mike Pritchett and Rev. Phil Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the North Atlanta Memorial Park, 5188 Winters Chapel Rd., Atlanta, GA 30360. Serving as pallbearers are Wesley Scott Coker, Travis Wayne Coker, Austin Russell Chamblee and Aaron Blake Chamblee. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at McCommons funeral home.
