Anne Elizabeth Williams, age 77, of Greensboro, GA died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at St. Joseph''s Hospital in Greensboro. A native of Jackson, MS, she was born June 3, 1932 to the late Mamie Elizabeth Thomas and Gibson Cecil Ross.
Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Central High School in Jackson where she was a majorette and later attended Florida Community College of Jacksonville. She worked in the retail apparel industry in Mobile, AL and Jacksonville, FL. She was an accomplished pianist and played the bass violin. She was an avid genealogist and was one of the founding members of the d''Iberville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Macon Historical Society (GA), the Noxubee County Historical Society (MS), the Newton County Historical & Genealogical Society (MS), the American Camellia Society, the Sawgrass Country Club in Jacksonville, FL and Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro. A former resident of Marshallville, GA, she volunteered at the Oaks Nursing Home and several church-sponsored charities in Marshallville and in Greensboro. She was a faithful Christian and member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro.
Mrs. Williams, beloved mother and wife, leaves a devoted husband of 61 years, Curtis R. Williams, and four loving daughters, Beth A. Kellogg and husband Stuart of Madison, MS, Barbara D. Dusterhoff of Marietta, GA, Jonelle McKey of Atlanta, GA, and Catherine E. Cooper and husband Allen of Cumming, GA; a close cousin and "sister" Mamie Jo Brown of Pine Bluff, AR; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Decatur United Methodist Church in Decatur, MS with Rev. Bruce Taylor officiating assisted by Stuart Kellogg. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Pallbearers are Allen Cooper, Ernest Parker, Stuart Kellogg, Matthew Forsyth, Curt Dusterhoff, Lamar Williams, Kent Bowen, and Gary Bowen. Honorary pallbearers are Gullick Bowen, Shane Bowen, and Paul Bowen. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 8 at Milling Funeral Home in Union.
