Anne Harper English

Anne Maude Harper English, age 85, of Stockbridge, GA, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Jonesboro Nursing and Rehab Center after several years of Alzheimer''s Disease. Born on November 1, 1924, she was one of fourteen children of the late Bunnie Lewis Harper, Sr. and Walla Mae Draper Harper. She grew up in Greene County and attended Woodville High School, where she played basketball. She went on to graduate from Greensboro High School, where she was a member of the Beta Club and also graduated from Atlanta Business College. After World War II, she was employed by Warner Robins Rent Control. She also worked for Marathon Gas Company as a secretary, American Insurance Company and was a sitter for Henry Medical Center. For the last fifteen years that she worked, she helped those suffering from Alzheimer''s Disease. Well into her eighties she continued to enjoy ceramics and bowling at least three times a week. Mrs. English was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stockbridge, GA.

Her husband Earnest Louis English preceded her in death in 1991; and siblings, William Ralph "Billy" Harper, Jerry Harper, Bunnie Lewis Harper, Jr., Mary Louise Harper Bond, Dorothy Harper, Clifton Harper, Julia Harper, Sybil Harper Connolly and twins that were stillborn. She is survived by two daughters, Belinda Louise Maddox of Lawrenceville, GA and Pamela English Smith of Stockbridge, GA; two sons, Terry Louis English of Stockbridge, GA and Noel Wayne English and wife Becky of McDonough, GA; three brothers, Wallace Wayne Harper of Austin, TX, Clarence Coy "Alex" Harper of Winterville, GA and Bobby Ray Harper of Chauncey, GA; several nieces and nephews, including Loretta Whittaker of Penfield, GA; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Penfield Baptist Church, 1061 Mercer Circle, Penfield, GA 30669 with Rev. Dave Bond and Rev. David Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in the Penfield Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Eric Smith, Randy English, Jared English, Ben Maddox, Tony Maddox, Heath Maddox and SSGT. Shelby Shane Smith. The family requests that any memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, in memory of Annie Maude Harper English, 4566 N. Henry Blvd., Stockbridge, GA 30281.
