Andrew Gholston Jones

Andrew Gholston “Bay” Jones, age 76, of Crawfordville, GA, died Friday, November 17, 2006 at his residence. Born in Taliaferro County on December 27, 1929 he was the son of the late Reuben Henry Jones and Willie Jordan Jones. He was a graduate of Alexander Stephens Institute in Crawfordville. He served in Germany in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. Then he married Wilma Bonner in 1953 and they were married almost fifty-four years. He worked for the Taliaferro County Road Department and then worked with Winthrop Phelps. After Mr. Phelps retirement in 1969, Bay started his own company, Jones Construction. He was a member of Margaret’s Grove Baptist Church. Bay is survived by his wife, Wilma Bonner Jones, of Crawfordville, GA; a daughter, Donna J. Adams and husband Chris of Greensboro, GA; two sons, Andrew Richard “Ricky” Jones and wife Bobbie of Greensboro, GA and David Jones of Tybee Island, GA; two sisters, Helen Taylor of Jackson, GA and Hazel Bentley and husband Jack of Sparta, GA; two brothers, Harold Jones of Crawfordville, GA and Walter Jones and wife Betty of White Plains, GA; five grandchildren, Heather Darden and husband Tripp, Andrew Robert “Bay” Jones, Margo Adams, Morgan Adams and Mason Adams; two great grandchildren, Gant Darden and London Darden; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Gholston “Rocky” Jones in July of 1974. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Margaret’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Richard T. Chewning and Rev. William T. Hammond officiating. Interment will follow in Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Jamie Reynolds, Jere Power, Ted Baker, Charles Copelan, Ralph Simons, Gentry Strickland, Melvin Duvall, Jack Merritt, Dickie Dunagan, Colin Stewart and Otis Simons. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Duvall, Mike McCommons, Ricky McCommons, Tim McCommons, Paul Jackson, Stan Jackson, Charles Stewart and Richard Stewart. Any memorials may be made to United Hospice, 1226 Augusta West Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night at the funeral home.
