Alva Wagnon, age 81, of Union Point, Georgia, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Greene Point Health Care & Rehab in Union Point, GA. Born in Morgan County on September 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Guy Wagnon and Lizzie Andrews Wagnon who were both natives of Greene County. He grew up and attended school in Siloam, Georgia. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. As a young man his working career began at Chipman Union in Union Point. For many years he worked for E. R. Snell Construction Company retiring in 1994. While working for them he helped to build I-20 in Greene County.
He is survived by his sisters, Estelle Barlow of Augusta, GA and Josephine Bramlett of Union Point, GA; a brother Jerry Wagnon of Conyers, GA and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Warren Cosby Wagnon and Bob Marion Wagnon.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Callaway Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harry Michael officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as pallbearers are Herbert Rhodes, James Taylor, Donnie Clements, Edward Clements, Robert Simpson and Steve Strozier.
