Allen Wilkes, Jr. Obituary

Allen Robert Wilkes, Jr.
March 5, 1936 – January 23, 2014

Allen Robert Wilkes, Jr. of White Plains, GA, died peacefully at his home on Lake Oconee Thursday morning, January 23, 2014.  Son of the late Mr. Allen Robert Wilkes, Sr. and Mrs. Frances Nola Wilkes, he was born on March 5, 1936 in Stone Mountain, GA.  On June 21, 1957, Allen was wed to his beautiful and loving wife, Mary Camilla Couch Wilkes.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and earned the rank of Lance Corporal (E-3) proudly serving his country for 7 years and received an Honorable Discharge on February 5, 1963.  Thereafter, he began an apprenticeship in the Local 72 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union, in which he diligently worked for 45 years and retired as Master Plumber.  He and his wife fulfilled their dream after retirement and built their home on Lake Oconee, surrounded by family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife Camilla, Allen is survived by his brother, James Edward Wilkes and sister, Yvonne Wilkes Reeves and was preceded in death by the late Mrs. Marguerite Wilkes Sockwell, and Mrs. Emma Lou Wilkes Saulpaw.  Allen, who was better known by his family and friends as Bobby, was a very proud father and is endured by his son Matthew Allen Wilkes and daughter Tracy Wilkes; grandchildren: Brandon Allen Wilkes, Blair Wilkes, Elijah Alexander, and Shaina Alexander; great grandchildren: Parker Allen Wilkes, Avery Wilkes and Brantley Wilkes, among many other relatives and life-long friends.

When Bobby was not hard at work at the Local 72, he enjoyed spending his time tracking and hunting his favorite game animals, and loved to put on a BBQ  for his family and friends and was well known as the Stew Master for his family’s one of a kind Brunswick Stew. Bobby lived a very rich and full life and even made many trips to Wyoming to hunt elk, mule deer, and antelope, although, his favorite game to hunt was turkey, hogs and whitetail deer here in Georgia.  Bobby even took up taxidermy and enjoyed mounting the game taken by his friends and family to preserve those cherished memories.

Bobby was truly a Man amongst men, and had a wealth of knowledge and compassion he never hesitated to share with those for whom he cared.  All who knew and loved Bobby are very blessed and fortunate to have known and learned from such a man.  He will surely be missed.  May the Good Lord take Bobby in His Hands to guide and deliver him to His Eternal Kingdom in Heaven, and may God bless.
