Allan Oram Obituary

Allan Ernest Oram, age 82, of Harbor Club on Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA, died Thursday, November 13, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA. Allan was born in Cambridge, MA on April 22, 1932 to the late Ernest Howe Oram and Marjorie Edith Tracey Oram.

He graduated from Marblehead High School and went on to earn an undergraduate degree and Master’s Degree in Accounting at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1957. Allan was an Accounting Professor at Bentley College and was well respected by students and faculty alike. He retired in 1990 after twenty-seven years. He was also a Certified Public Accountant. While at Bentley, he served for a time as chairman of the accounting department and co-authored an Accounting Information Systems textbook. He married the former Beverley Kaye Willows on August 8, 1959, whom he adored, and they raised their family in Winchester, MA before moving to Fripp Island, SC in 1990. In June of 2006, they moved to Harbor Club on Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA. He attended Walker United Methodist Church of Greensboro. He derived much pleasure in serving his community and tutored at Lake Oconee Academy. While living on Fripp, he was a volunteer fireman, tutor, hospital volunteer, and member of the choir at All Faith’s Chapel.

Allan and Beverley spent their summers on Webster Lake in Franklin, NH, where Allan loved to swim and snorkel. He was an avid golfer (achieving not one, but two coveted holes in one) and was active in the men’s golf associations at Fripp and Harbor Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, David Oram; three children - Christine Samoiloff (Alexander), Gail Johnston (Scott), and Douglas Oram (Rhonda Sykes); five grandchildren - Tracey Mahoney (Roberto), Alex Samoiloff, Kelly Samoiloff, Hailey Johnston, Kyle Johnston; a great grandson - Landon Mahoney, other relatives; and many friends.
