Alice (Lankford) Griffith

Alice Lankford Griffith, age 90, of Athens, TN, formerly of the Bairdstown Community of Oglethorpe County went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington, GA.  Born in Penfield, GA on November 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Carroll Harvey Lankford, Sr. and Floria Burnette Lankford.  On June 30, 1952 she married James Lawrence Griffith.  During her working career Alice worked as a seamstress for Wilkins Manufacturing Company and Almar Manufacturing Company.  Later on she worked at Wilkins Big Ace.  Being with family was most important, but Alice also enjoyed quilting, gardening and most anything outdoors.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Riceville, TN.
 
In addition to her husband, James Lawrence Griffith of Athens, TN, she is survived by her daughter, Kathy Osborne and husband Jerry of Athens, TN; son, Tim Griffith of Lawrenceville, GA; stepdaughter, Sandra Elkins and husband Jerry of Clarksville, GA; brother, Samuel Terrell Lankford; sisters, Betty Elrod and Alice’s twin, Elizabeth Epps; grandchildren, Cindy, Jody, Dwaine, and Jennifer; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carroll Lankford, Jr., Grover Lankford and Clarke Lankford and sister, Lucille Epps.
 
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Darrell Roth officiating.  Interment will follow in the Bairds Baptist Church Cemetery, 42 Bairdstown Loop, Union Point, GA.  Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Osborne, Danny Disharoon, Jerry Elkins, Jerry Caldwell, Ernie Guthrie and Jimmy Griffith.  The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at the funeral home.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
