Alice Cooper Obituary

Alice Victoria Ellis Cooper, age 103, of Greensboro, GA, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010. She was born on October 1, 1906 and the last survivor of nine children born to the late Albert E. Ellis and Martha King Ellis. She was a graduate of Paterson, NJ High School and Montclair Normal School, where she earned a teaching degree and taught kindergarten for a number of years. In 1928 she married George Frederick Cooper whom she knew through family and had two daughters, Betty Alice Strater and Patricia Finkle. Shortly after her husband''s early death Alice started a career in banking. She was in charge of the safety deposit department at the Paterson Savings and Loan Bank and retired at the age of 70.

Having lived in New Jersey most of her life, she moved to Greene County, Georgia. For the last four years she has made her home at Willow Run Retirement Home. Mrs. Cooper was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paterson, New Jersey and most recently The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Greensboro, GA. Mrs. Cooper attributed her longevity to having a good family, faith in Jesus and always having something to look forward to.

Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, George Frederick Cooper, at the early age of 43. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Alice Strater and husband Kurt of Greensboro, GA and Patricia Ann Finkle and husband Harry of Chatham, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Kurt Frederick Strater and wife Susanne of Beaconsfield, Canada, Jay William Strater and wife Laura of San Diego, California, and Peter George Finkle and wife Megan of New Vernon, New Jersey; four great grandchildren, Christina, Kimberly, Griffin and William.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, May 21, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 303 N. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Father Joseph D. Greene III officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, P.O. Box 93, Greensboro, GA 30642. The family will receive friends after the service at the Church Activities Center.
