Alfred Eugene “Gene” Hobgood
Alfred Eugene “Gene” Hobgood, 74, of Eatonton, GA passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Gene was born July 1, 1939 to the late George Alfred Hobgood and Syble Azalee Weaver Hobgood in Canton, GA. He graduated from West Fulton High School in Atlanta, GA in 1957. After high school, he proudly served his country in the Army Reserves. On October 24, 1964 he married Patricia Anne McLaughlin with whom he had two children. For thirty-five years Gene worked as a salesman for Ziegler Tools and moved to Eatonton, GA to be closer to the territory he worked. Moving from Austell, GA, they have lived in Eatonton for twenty-five years. After retiring from Ziegler Tools, he worked for Hallman’s Ace Hardware in Eatonton as partime clerk. He was a member of Lakeside Church at Lake Oconee. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a collector of American made knives and team collectible matchbox cars. He also loved fishing, football and working in the yard.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Patricia Anne “Pat” Hobgood of Eatonton, GA; a son, Glen Hobgood of Acworth, GA and his two children Alexandra Elise Hobgood and Zoe Anne Hobgood; a daughter, Gina Collier and husband Ray of Dallas, GA and their two children, Kayla Collier and Clint Collier; a brother, James Harold Hobgood and wife Dorothy Jo of Marietta, GA; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel in Greensboro with Rev. Lee Ross and Rev. Joe Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Ray Collier, Jr., Brad Richardson, Jeff Richardson, Kevin Kiger, Jay Kiger and Chase Graham. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday night at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
