Alberta Bowyer Hughes Crews, age 71, of Eatonton, GA, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. Joseph''s Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Crews was born on September 9, 1940 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and was raised in Wytheville, VA by Tom and Mary Hughes. She was a graduate of Wythe High School and attended Johnston Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Abingdon, VA. She married Addison "Buddy" Crews on September 3, 1958.
Her past work experience included administrative positions at Bowman Gray School of Medicine and J.C. Penney. She was an active and faithful member of Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church and a supporter of the Central Georgia Christian Food Bank. Alberta loved gardening and caring for hummingbirds. Buddy and Alberta have lived on Lake Oconee since 1994.
In addition to her husband, Addison "Buddy" Crews, she is survived by two daughters, Mary Crews Buchanan and husband Carl of Dacula, GA; Betsy Lynn Rose and husband Larry of Covington, GA; two brothers, Emory M. Cochran, wife Margie, of Roanoke, VA and Tommy A. Hughes, wife Jeanne, of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Brittany Lynn Rose, Zachary Tyler Buchanan, and Samuel Blake Buchanan; brothers-in-law, Rev. Thomas A. Crews and wife Jenny of Chattanooga, TN and Rudy Rogers of Winston Salem, NC; and a number of other relatives and close friends.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday evening, March 10, 2012 at the Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, 113 Scott Road, Eatonton, GA. Memorial Services will be held Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church with Dr. Joe King officiating. Inurnment will follow at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642. The family requests that memorials be made in the way of donations to the Central Georgia Christian Food Bank, 113 Scott Road, Eatonton, GA 31024 (a 501C3 charity). McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
