My sweet friend! We loved you so much and you were one of the best friends, and lots of special memories we had living in Greensboro, GA! I remember the first time I heard you sing at Herby Kay's, you took my breath away! I hope you and my brother, Jerry (Barton) have hooked up in Heaven and are singing away! He always loved you as well as Zac! Precious man....all our love to your daughter and your family!

I just wanted to thank everyone for attending Dad's "Celebration of Life Service" and to thank you for the flowers, cards, words of encouragement here on the guest book. I must thank you for the wonderful hugs and stories I have heard the last few weeks, now if I can just remember them. And for those of you who couldn't attend... I know you wanted to be there, thank you for your calls, etc. His Celebration of Life Service was standing room only... you could feel the Love ... my Dad loved Life and loved his friends like family. He lived to be with and bring joy to others, yet he brought us so much joy with his "comic relief" as well as his voice.... I loved my Dad so much and I'm not sure how to live life without him. I will miss you Daddy .... until we meet again. Nanci

I spent a good bit of my time growing up at Mr. Johns' house. He was always smiling, joking but I remember his singing the most. The song "Moon River" will always be very special to me. I also remember getting into his homemade wine, several flavors. Mr. John I Love you and will miss you very much,no doubt you are singing with friends you haven't seen in awhile as well as some new ones. I will see you again and this time we will sing together!! Love Karen or "Little Bit" as you liked to call me.It was an honor to know you and thanks for letting me spend so much of my childhood at your house,it was a blast....

Nanci, you know how much I loved your father. He was not only my brother but my best friend I have never known a more generous, considerate, and witty person and I miss him every day, especially now that I can't reminisce with him about our mutual friends we knew growing up in Knobel and our times together in Miami, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, and at the Richland in Greensboro. I will always regret not being there when he needed me.

For over 10 years, John was very much like a Father to us, as we both lost ours at young ages. He was a mentor and a friend. Monica cared for John seven days a week for nearly seven years, with little or no monetary compensation except for a brief absence due to family issues. She did so, out of her love for John. He will be sorely missed by us both. We were proud to have asked Rep. Mickey Channell to move forward with naming the bridge on Hwy 278 in his honor. It was our final goodbye gesture to John. We felt it would be a fitting tribute to a man loved by so many.

I will miss my sweet, handsome, talented Uncle John. My mother, his sister Robin, shared the gift of music. I like to think of them back together now, singing with a band of Angels. They will always be in my heart. All my love, Margie Augustine

I will always remember John Box as the "Gentle Giant" with the BIG voice. He was kind, generous, loveable, funny, and had a passion for life. I met him back in the early 80's when I met the one true love of his life, Nanci. He always had a big smile on his face and LOVED to flirt. He always made you feel good and welcomed. He has left so many good memories that he will never be forgoten. Nanci, I know you miss him soooo much. You will always feel him with you, weather it be a song,a place, or even a red bird. And I will always be here for you to tell me about it. He will always be remembered and loved by many. He was simply "unforgetable".
