Margie Dell Underwood Cantrell

Margie Dell Underwood Cantrell of Ellenwood, GA passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, GA.  She was 80 years old.  A native of Greene County, she was born in Union Point, GA on August 6, 1937. She was the daughter of the late William Lamar Underwood and Marzy Lee Stewart Underwood.  As a child she attended school in White Plains, GA and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1955. From the day she entered first grade throughout her high school years, she never missed a day of school.  On September 3, 1955 she married James William Cantrell and they made their home in the Atlanta area.  For about forty years she worked in banking, retiring from Wachovia in the 1990’s. She was a member of White Plains Baptist Church, and during the later years of her life, she attended The Ole Country Church in McDonough, GA. Margie loved flowers, butterflies, and all things Christmas. She enjoyed entertaining, shopping, and camping, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

In addition to her loving and devoted husband of sixty-two years, James Cantrell of Ellenwood, GA, she is survived by a son, James William (Jamie) Cantrell, Jr. and his wife Paula of White Plains, GA; a granddaughter, Rebecca Cantrell and her fiancé, Jacob Yearwood; a sister, Shirley Weaver of Marietta, GA; two brothers, Marvin Underwood of Warner Robins, GA and Eugene Underwood of White Plains, GA. She was also blessed with many other friends and family members.  In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her siblings, Vera Marie Underwood, Frances Underwood, Faye Marchman, Carroll Thomas Underwood, Sr. and Curtis Underwood.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Robert Vines officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, 1020 Main Street W, White Plains, GA 30678.  Serving as pallbearers are Jeff Dowdy, Jacob Yearwood, Tommy Underwood, Billy Wayne Marchman, Franklin (Flea) Marchman, and Lamar Callaway.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. I have not seen my Aunt Margie in many years but she was so loving, sweet, and kind to me when I was a young boy. Her and my Uncle James are such wonderful, loving people and my thoughts are with all during this time. I loved Aunt Margie very much..

Jamie, we are very saddened by the loss of your precious mama. Whenever I heard her name spoken, it was with great affection. I heard so much over the years about her love for Christmas. That alone says a lot about her joyful spirit. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you, Paula, Rebecca, and especially with Mr. James in the times that lie ahead. May the memory of her smile, her love, and all the good times you shared, be great comfort to you. We love all of you.
