Earl Richard Priegel passed away on April 18, 2017 at his residence.  He was born on August 19, 1926 to the late Albert Richard Priegel and Muriel Bacon Priegel in St. Louis, MO.  Earl earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry from Utah State University in 1950 and a Masters Degree from North Carolina State University in 1965.

He proudly served his country in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II on a tanker ship delivering fuel to the Navy ships and for the jeeps, tanks, and planes fighting in war.  He traveled around the world three times during his service, and was proud that the tanker he served on delivered the fuel to the Enola Gay.

He was a U.S. Forester, and worked for and retired from the US Forest Service.  He was instrumental in developing many innovative ideas such as helicopter logging while he worked for the Wildlife, Timber, and Range division.

Earl attended the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro.  He enjoyed wood working and had made some beautiful pieces. He had lived in Greensboro for twenty-four years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Priegel; son, Timothy Priegel; and grandson, Ryan A. Patrick.  He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Dan Patrick  of Monticello, GA and Carol and Mark Thiesse  of Thermopolis, WY and son Logan Priegel  of Social Circle, GA; also by granddaughter, Tara P. Garrison and husband Micah, great-grandson, Andrew Garrison, grandson Brandon Priegel, and great-grandson, Conner Priegel.

Memorial services will be held, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 117 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Alex Stevens officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until time for the service at the First Presbyterian Church.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 E. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Paul Anderson Youth Home, PO Box 525, Vidalia, GA 30475 or to the First Presbyterian Church designated for the upgrade of the sound system.
