Joseph Robert Farkas

Joseph Robert “Joey” Farkas, of Eatonton, GA, died on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at his residence, at the age of 38.  Born in Monroe, Michigan on June 9, 1978, he was the son of Michael Richard Farkas and Deborah Sue Jenkins Farkas of Greensboro, GA.  Joey spent twelve years in Monroe, Michigan and then moved to Conyers, GA where he lived for ten years and graduated from Heritage High School.  Sixteen years ago he moved to Eatonton, GA.  He joined the United States Army and served his country as a paratrooper while stationed in Germany for two years.  Since he was eighteen, Joey was employed by his father, Mike’s Painting and worked with him six days a week.  They worked together painting forty-eight houses for Habitat for Humanity.  The social aspect of Habitat for Humanity meant so much to Joey.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed kayaking, fishing, camping and hunting with bow and arrow.  He loved his Harley-Davidson and going on charity rides. Joey had a great personality and enjoyed being with his friends.  Walking his beloved dog, Charlie was one of his favorite pastimes.

In addition to his mother and father, Mike and Debbie Farkas of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by a sister, Christine Farkas of Greensboro, GA; a brother, James Farkas (Robin) of Covington, GA;  his nieces and nephews, Nathan, Jerimiah, Sean, Mallory and John; a number of aunts and uncles; other relatives and many, many friends.  He is also survived by his dog, Charlie.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Fellowship, 1971 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Jimmy Long officiating.  Serving as pallbearers are Tim Jenkins, Matt Salata, Ken Jenkins, Ken Farkas, Pat Farkas and Chris Melnychenko.  The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.  The family requests that any memorials be made to the Greene County Habitat for Humanity, 1373 Willow Run Road, Greensboro, GA 30642.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. I am so sorry for the loss of your son. My heart goes out to you, Debbie and Mike. The last time I saw Joey was about 3 years ago when he and Mike painted the interior of my home. Joey and I kidded each other about cooking on the grill. I enjoyed bantering back and forth with him. He always had one up on me. He was a good kid.
