Lois Audrey (Howard) Rettew 94, of Mooresville, NC passed away on March 3, 2016 in Union Point, Georgia. A private service will be held later this spring in Rohrerstown, Pennsylvania where she will be laid to rest with her husband Jack.

Lois Howard was born in Mooresville, NC to Myrtle Essie Ervin Howard and Ernest Webb Howard on April 10, 1921.  She graduated from high school in Mooresville in 1938.  In 1942, she accepted a position as a Clerk Stenographer with the Army Air Forces in Washington D.C. and was later transferred to Ladd Field in Fairbanks, Alaska where she met her first husband Captain Homer F. Wilson, Jr.  Captain Wilson’s plane crashed during a winter storm and was never found.  Lois returned home to Mooresville, and gave birth to their daughter, Anne Elizabeth “Mikey” Wilson.  A few years later, Lois reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Jack Rettew and they married shortly thereafter.  Years later, while living in Pinehurst, they fell in love with the game of golf.  Lois was a member of the Silver Foils Golf Association and won the Pinehurst Country Club Championship in 1962 and the Silver Foils Annual Tournament in 1965. In early 1970, the family moved to Florida and purchased a small business which they operated for many years.  In her later years, Lois enjoyed scrapbooking and visiting with her great grand-children.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, John William (Jack) Rettew, and her siblings, Merle Howard, Corrine Major, Robert W. Howard, Elsie Fortner, and Anne Earnhardt.

She is survived by her sister Lynda Schenk, four daughters: Anne (Mikey) Edgerton of Jacksonville, Florida; Connie Dickens of Union Point, GA; Jeanne Waters of Cleburne, Texas, and Suzanne Haffner of Covington, Texas.  She also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Saw your mother's obit in the online version of The Pilot. Remembering both Mikey and Connie from earlier years, thought I'd express my condolences. 94 years is a good life for your mom. Sincerely, Don Thompson.
