Bill Rudland was my first boss when I worked for the Air Force Materiel Law Office at Wright-Patterson AFB Ohio in 1982. He was a great scholar, a skilled jurist and a honorable man. His beloved wife Marilyn and his children were his everything. He held on fast to his friends and was proud of his country. Marilyn also took me under her wing and we had a lovely working trip to Washington DC when she was videotaping court appearances. A Ronald Reagan fan through and through , Bill taught me honor and love of country and service before self. I will never forget the patience with which he guided me on our trips to hearings and depositions and his surprise side trip for a young paralegal to see one of the most beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean near San Francisco. I always was learning from him. I believe he is reunited with Marilyn and his buddy Steve Abelson, sharing a glass of wine to toast the sunset. Rest in peace, Bill

My first civil service job was in the Staff Judge Advocate office at Wright-Patterson AFB OH. I remember Col Rudland as a "dashing" man who was very kind. It was always entertaining when he & Steve Abelson would be in a "discussion" about anything. Col Rudland would walk away with a grin on his face because he had just said something that would get Maj Abelson all worked up, & Maj Abelson would be following behind, stressing his point.
My sympathies to his family.
