Carroll Harvey “Sport” Lankford, age 91, of Greensboro, Georgia died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Greene Point Health and Rehabilitation in Union Point, Georgia. Born in Stephens, Georgia on January 18, 1923, he was the son of the late Carroll Harvey Lankford, Sr. and Flora Mae Burnette Lankford. He attended school in Woodville.  For over forty years he worked in maintenance at the Union Point Lumber Company.  He attended Bethel Baptist Church and the Union Point Worship Center.  Sport enjoyed gardening, putting together puzzles, building bird houses and watching trains.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Canup Lankford in October of 2005 and a brother, Clark Lankford.  He is survived by five sons, Nicky Lankford and wife Joleen of Greensboro, GA, Ricky Lankford and wife Mary of Greensboro, GA, Mickey Lankford and Rhonda of Greensboro, GA, Tony Lankford and wife Mary of Duluth, GA and Terry Lankford and wife Laura of Commerce, GA; four sisters, Lucille Epps of Bairdstown, GA, Alice Griffith of Athens, TN, Elizabeth Epps of Dawsonville, GA and Betty Elrod of Riverdale, GA; two brothers, Samuel T. Lankford of Riverdale, GA and Grover Lankford of Atlanta, GA; 22 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Union Point Worship Center, 208 Lamb Avenue, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Dennis Mitchell officiating. Inurnment will be in the Bairds Baptist Church Cemetery.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements. So very sorry to hear about Mr Sport. He was a very nice, obliging person. I was blessed to have known him growing up. I remember him as always being busy but he had beautiful flowers. Heaven is blessed to have him there.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Lankford. He and Mrs. Marie were so faithful attending Bethel Baptist Church. He always had a smile and a hello.
