U.S. Veteran

Edward Baldwin Watkins, 61, of Watkinsville, GA, died April 8, 2004 at his residence. He was born in Fulton County on January 21, 1943 to the late J.C. "Jack" Watkins and Louise Baldwin Watkins. He was a 1961 graduate of Grady High School in Atlanta and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Atlanta. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, he worked as a salesman for 28 years with Drugs Mutual Inc.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy G. Watkins of Watkinsville, GA; a sister, Carol Watkins Taylor of Severna Park, Maryland; and a number of other relatives and friends.

His battle with cancer was long, and he fought it fiercely. His sense of determination and will to win the battle was an enormous strength for all who knew and loved him. Mr. Watkins did not allow cancer to stand in the way of his reaching out to those around him. He continued giving of himself through providing much needed food for the poor and hungry. In lieu of flowers, a gift may be made to the Catholic Center of the University of Georgia, 1344 Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA 30605 to continue feeding the hungry or to a charity of your choice.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 12:00 noon at the Catholic Center of the University of Georgia with Father Jack McDowell, OFM Celebrant and Rev. William McDonald officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. The cremains will be interred at Decatur City Cemetery. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
