James Edward “Ed” Walker, age 82, of Greensboro, Georgia formerly of Doraville, GA, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, GA. Born in Greeneville, TN on July 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Edison Walker and Fannie Wilhoit Walker. He graduated from Greensboro High School and attended Georgia Tech. He served his country in the United States Air Force and married the former Lucy Carnes of Eatonton, GA on January 29, 1956. In 1990 he retired from Lockheed Martin as a Aircraft Mechanic. In 2005 they returned to Greene County where they built a home on the Walker home place. Ed enjoyed all kinds of outdoor sports, but he especially enjoyed fishing and hunting deer. He was also a top mechanic on cars and could fix just about anything. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Lucy Elizabeth Carnes Walker of Greensboro, GA; three sons, Michael Walker and wife Pam and their daughter, Sarah of Kennesaw, GA, Greg Walker of Athens, GA and Mark Walker of Auburn, GA; three brothers, Elmer Walker of Madison, GA, Billy Walker of Greeneville, TN and Henry Walker of Braselton, GA; and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George L. Walker and Johnny Walker. Funeral Services will be held, Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, (Greshamville) Madison, GA 30650 with Rev. Mike Pritchett and Rev. Tom Dial officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, Georgia 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Larry Walker, Steve Dial, Gene Walker, Billy Hawkins, Eddie Powell and Charles Crumbley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at McCommons Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
