Jackie Paul "Jack" Tomlin, 68, of Woodville, GA passed away on November 2, 2013 at Athens Regional Medical Center. He suffered from a sudden aortic dissection and was unable to recover. Jack was born June 17, 1945 to the late Runie and Geneva Cargile Tomlin in Porterdale, GA. On June 6, 1967 he married Margarette Sue Nobles with whom he had four children and 15 grandchildren. He attended school in Covington as a child and graduated from Newton County High School in 1963. He furthered his education at Tennessee Temple University and Seminary in Chattanooga, TN. After graduating, he became the principal at Tabernacle Christian School in Covington with Pastor R. Hudson Moody. Jack also worked for Westside Church School in Jackson, GA and Calvary Baptist Church in Carl, GA under Pastor Larry Youngblood. He also filled in as an interim pastor at several churches in his early career. Later he worked as the Coordinator in the State of Georgia for Accelerated Christian Education for many years. He visited numerous Christian Schools that he helped start and train the staff. He later became the Director of Georgia Christian Education Association and Christian Heritage Home School Academy until his death. Most recently he was the Assistant Pastor at Bethel Baptist Church of Greensboro, GA serving with his son, Pastor Robert Tomlin. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren, and serving his Lord. He loved old cars, mostly Fords between the years of 1954 and 1956 and was very good with his hands doing auto restoration and woodworking. He had a unique sense of humor and could write sweet, funny poems and spiritual devotions. His children and grandchildren loved to tease him about being hard of hearing and being a slow poke driver. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sue Nobles Tomlin; three sons, Robert Paul "Bobby" Tomlin and wife Rhonda Lynn (Housworth) and their seven children, Evan Luke, Austin Daniel, Megan Elisabeth, Cameron Paul, Logan Matthew, Reagan Michael and Kathryn Grace of Siloam, GA; Michael Ray Tomlin and wife Christa Marie (Pullen) and their three children, Patrick Douglas, Genna Claire and Sean Riley of Bethlehem, GA; Jonathan David Tomlin and wife Heather Dianne (Youngblood) and their three children, Hadley Dana, Carson David and Brett Dawson of Auburn, GA; a daughter, Jacquelyn Suzanne (Tomlin) Browning and husband Scott Browning and their two children, Ashlyn Grace and Tristan Scott of Buford, GA; a number of nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Tomlin; a sister, Joan Tomlin Davis; and a grandchild, Allison Grace Tomlin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro, GA. On Thursday, November 7, 2013 the body will lie in state from noon until the time of the funeral service. Our hearts are saddened by the passing of Mr. Jack. He had become a good friend and we will miss him. He had the way of making you feel wanted and loved the first time he met you. We really enjoyed the talks we had each time we met, usually in the grocery store. He never failed to ask me to come sing for him, and the last time we talked I promised to sing at homecoming and I will. I will be singing just for him and the family, I know he will be listening. Love to you all

Brother Jack has impacted our lives in such a positive way that now he as well as our Lord & Savior understand. He was the driving force of Josh becoming the man in the Word that he is today. There are so many ways that so many lives will be different & a little less bright here on our Earth without him here. However, that Heavenly Home that all who are saved just as he was, has grown so much more by his presence. We love the family he & Mrs. Sue have made & so willingly share with all who can have the privilege of being around them.

So sorry to hear for the passing of Mr. Tomlin. He was the principal of Tabernacle Christian School in Covington, GA. I graduated from the school in 1974. I was in the second graduating class. Mr. Tomlin was always so kind and helped me in so many ways. His spiritual insights were not wasted on my young heart. He was very instrumental in my attending Tennessee Temple University in Chatt. TN. I graduated and met my sweet husband there. May the Lord comfort all of you during this time. My prayers are with you.

I was born and raised in Newton Co. I graduated from Newton County High in the class of 1964!! I remember Jack and Joan and I saw Jack at the graduation at Bethel Baptist Church several years back. I also had Mr. Hartley for 2 years in school!!! Also I retired from the Union Point Post Office the beginning of this year. So sorry about Jack and I wish he could have made it through his problem. He was a wonderful Christian and he is a better place; God has angels all around us. Jack will be missed and will have all of you in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless You.
