Claude Ellington Silvey, age 94, of Greensboro, GA, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus. Born in Wilkes County on May 28, 1910, he was the son of the late Noah Walter Silvey and Emma Bryant Silvey. In 1928 he graduated from Wilkes County High School and moved to Detroit, MI in 1933 where he worked for General Motors until 1945. During World War II he set up drop forge shops for Willis Overland Jeeps and other military vehicles. Along with his brother-in-law, Bowen Thomas, he bought Greensboro Hardware in the fall of 1947 and ran it until 1953. Later he owned and operated the local Standard Oil Distributorship until 1974 when he retired. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro where he attended Evans Bible Class and a member of San Marino Lodge No. 34 of Greensboro where he received his 50 year pin in May of 1987. A He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Frances Howard Silvey, in July of 1997; a sister, Susie Lunceford; and two brothers, Walter Sanders Silvey and Floyd Silvey. He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Silvey Myers and her husband Dr. Cecil O. Myers of Americus, GA; three grandchildren, Trey Myers of Savannah, GA, Michael Myers of Americus, GA, and Meredith Myers of Americus, GA; and a number of other relatives and friends. A Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum in Athens. Serving as pallbearers are Carey Williams Jr., Roger West, Jimmy Finch, Charles Copelan, Mel Marchman Jr., Ralph Simons and Johnny Satterfield. Honorary Pallbearers are Members of Evans Bible Class, John Young, L. Y. Kenimer, Garnett Akins, Johnnie Satterfield, Quenton Hadden, Lloyd Williams, Wyatt Martin and Alton Kitchens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home. The family requests that any memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Greensboro Building Fund, 203 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
