He was a graduate of West Palm Beach High School and later attended GA Tech University where he graduated in 1949 with a degree in Civil and Industrial Engineering. During World War II Fred served his country in the US Army Air Corp. After his retirement, he moved to Pleasant Hill, TN with his wife, Betty Lou, who preceded him in death in January 1994. In December 1995, Fred married Sara Hunt and they lived in Uplands Retirement Village, Pleasant Hill, until they moved to Greensboro in September 2010. They became members of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer where the memorial service will be held on Friday, May 11 at 6:00pm with Father Joe Greene III officiating. In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Serena and William George (Piedmont, S.C), Melanie and Luis Vinuelas (Phoenix, AZ), Starr and Jim Courter (Greensboro, GA). Other survivors include his sister, Nancy Orthwein, and the joys of his life: seven grandchildren and two great grandsons. Following the memorial service the family will receive friends in the Activities Center of the church located at 303 N. Main Street, Greensboro, GA.
