Mrs. Frances Taylor Brook Gunn, age 90, of Union Point, GA, died Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Saint Joseph''s at East Georgia Hospital in Greensboro. She was born December 7, 1918 in Clarke County to the late Doc Benjamin Taylor and Frances Ann Evelyn McElroy Taylor. Mrs. Gunn received her AB degree in Elementary Education from Tift College in Forsyth. She earned a Masters of Education at the University of Georgia as a reading specialist. After 47 years of service she retired from Union Point Elementary School as a Remedial Reading Teacher. At one time she taught in Anchorage, Alaska at a school called Chugach and at the University of Georgia as a demonstration teacher in the Education Department. She later taught for 10 years at Nathanael Greene Academy. Mrs. Gunn has influenced students in Greene County, Cobb County, Clarke County and in the state of Alaska.

Mrs. Gunn''s approach to teaching reading was varied and designed to engage a child''s interest. She used art and creative work to teach reading. Children enjoyed her class and looked forward to the time they spent in her room. Mrs. Gunn''s hope for education was that schools would provide environments for the students that would help the students to become well adjusted, happy and productive human beings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Richard Gunn; a daughter, Carole Brook Askew; and three siblings. She is survived by two sons, Bobby Brook and wife Faye of Union Point, GA and Robert Richard Gunn of Union Point, GA; four grandchildren, Donna Askew Moon and husband Tommy of Greensboro, GA, Ben Askew and wife Debbie of Union Point, GA, Paula Brook of Greensboro, GA and Taylor Brook of Union Point, GA; two great grandchildren, Brook Moon and Ellie Askew; and many other relatives and friends.

Private Funeral Services will be held at her home in Union Point on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. My sincere condolences to the entire family. I knew her as Mrs. Brooks, and she was one of my teachers, I think 5th grade. I can remember her telling our class about Alaska, and it was just fascinating. She was a sweet, beautiful lady, and had such a distinguished life, especially her teaching. She will long be remembered by so many students and other friends. She made a difference in children's lives. May God bless you all in a special way during this time.

I enjoyed teaching with Granny Gunn at NGA. We bonded when she informed me that my aunt, Dorothy Moore, had been her roommate at Bessie Tift. I missed her when she left us from school and never pass by her room that I don't smile. She will have those little angels in Heaven drawing Picasso! Sympathies to all of us for our loss! Tommi Ward

Bobby,Faye, Robert, Donna, Ben and family. I had the true honor of getting to know and love Ms. Gunn on her MANY visit's to Boswell Parker to visit with Robert. She told me that she was so lucky to have such a great family and friends. She told me one day that she was glad to have a friend like me and she just did not know that I was the lucky one. She was in deed a wonderful person and teacher. She taught a number of Brian's sisters and brothers and they all admire her. I know that she is in heaven reading a book or teach an art class to the angels. I will truly miss her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother(GG). GG will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. If you should ever need anything you know where to find me. May God Bless and keep you all during the days to come. Love, Paige, Brian, Justin, and Phillip Hubbard
