Patricia McCollough “Pat” Flynt of Union Point, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. She was born on November 3, 1928 in Woodbine, Georgia to the late Thomas Jackson McCollough, Sr. and Hilda Wright McCollough. She graduated from Woodbine High School and from Georgia College in Milledgeville with a Master’s degree. Afterward she taught school in Union Point and in Greensboro retiring in 1990. She had a tremendous influence on the lives of many young people in Greene County.
On August 26, 1950 she married Reuben Henry Flynt who preceded her in death in December of 1975. She was a long and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Union Point where she held numerous positions. She was President of the United Methodist Women, Sunday School teacher since 1950, and choir director for twenty-five years. She also held the office of District leader of United Methodist Women and Lay person for United Methodist Church conference along with being a volunteer at the conference. She made flood buckets for UMCOR for hurricane and flood victims all over the United States.
Pat volunteered in many civic organizations. Among them being a Pink Lady at Boswell and St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro and helped with Meals on Wheels, the Thrift Store and the Greene County Food Program. She served as an EMT and was a member of the Happy Hearts Club.
She is survived by her son Thomas H Flynt (Edith) and her daughter Clarice Flynt Thompson; her brother Thomas Jackson McCollough, Jr; her sister Eugenia Laurence; grandchildren: Marie Harder, Benji Drane, Chris Drane (Millie), Cindi Thompson, and Eileen Duffie (Lee); great grandchildren: Britany, Tiffany, Adriana, Ashton, Josh, and Noah; great great grand children: Jacob, Allison, Analia, and Lee; other relatives and many friends. In addition to her husband Reuben Flynt, she was preceded in death by her sister Miriam Shelnutt and son-in-law Jim Thompson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 714 Park Avenue, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Deborah Griffith and Rev. Thomas Jackson McCollough officiating. A private burial will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
