John Boykin Box, age 86, of Greensboro, GA, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at St. Mary''s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro. John was born on February 2, 1926 in Knobel, AR to the late William Mason Box of Vernon, AL and Nancy Viola Byers Box of Gainesville, AR. John graduated from Knobel High School and attended the University of Arkansas. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

Over the years he was a singer and bartender who worked from Canada to Cuba, he sang with Frank Sinatra in Miami at the Flamingo Club as well as other personalities all down the eastern coast. He began his singing career in 1950 on TV in Detroit on the Soopy Sales Show. He moved to Greensboro thirty years ago in 1982, where he sang with the choir at the First United Methodist Church. In Greene County he was known as the singer of preference at the Harbor Club and other events throughout the area. He was also the owner and operator of "The Richland", where he continued to sing.

John is survived by a daughter, Nanci Box Chrismer, her husband of 23 years, David Chrismer of Charlotte, NC, a granddaughter, Kayla Chrismer who attends UNCC; and a step-son Wally Swanland of Grand Rapids, MI; a brother, Ted Box of Wetumpa, AL and many friends in Atlanta as well as Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his brothers Joe Don Box, William Box and a sister Robin Cox.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 202 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Dan Wilson and Rev. Ed Nelson officiating.
