Harry Ford Boston, age 91, of Athens, Georgia formerly of Greensboro, Georgia, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Boston was born in Waleska, Georgia on May 25, 1913 to the late Paul Jerome Boston and Lonie Moore Boston. After graduating from Reinhardt in two years, he began teaching as a 19 year old in the mountains of Cherokee County in a one room school. He taught for two years in grades first through seventh where his students doubled from thirty to sixty before he left. In order to meet the families he spent the night in the children''s homes. Then he went to the University of Georgia in 1936 where he received a BS and Master of Education and a six year degree in Administration. In the early forties he was a Vocational Education teacher at Carnsville High School for four years and established the Boy Scouts in Carnsville. Then he moved from Franklin County to Greene County in 1948 as a vocational instructor. Mr. Boston was appointed Superintendent December 7, 1955 after the County School Superintendent was killed in an automobile accident. Serving for twenty nine years he retired January 1, 1985. He was an active member of the Rotary Club, Lions Club where he was president, San Marino Lodge #34, Touchdown Club, Athens Country Club, Georgia Senior Golfers Association, Local, State and National Education Organizations and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro where he taught Sunday school classes. While living in Athens he attended the Tuck Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church.

As a teacher and administrator his influence was a great asset to young people and teachers and he was always interested in his students and their accomplishments. He loved all sports especially golf and the Georgia Bulldogs. A He was preceded in death by his loving wife Rossie Hardy Boston in November of 1997; He is survived by a daughter, Elaine Boston Carsel of Athens, GA; a sister, Martha Jo Carmichael Lingefelt of Canton, GA; two grandchildren, Robbie Carsel and Meredith Carsel of Athens, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Kleven Boston. A Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Richard Chewning and Rev. Ed Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery in Greensboro. Serving as pallbearers are Larry Smith, Ricky Easley, David Thornton, Scott Baynes, David Roper and John Callaway. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Tuck Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church of Athens. Any memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro, P. O. Box 216, Greensboro, GA 30642 or the First United Methodist Church of Athens, 327 N. Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA 30601 .
