Willie Mae Lewis English, 95, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Saint Joseph''s East Georgia in Greensboro. Born in Hancock County on December 16, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Tom Jefferson Lewis and Pearl Darden Lewis. She was educated in Powelton, GA and worked as a Looper at Chipman Union. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Union Point, working in the nursery for over twenty years.
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling Cone English; a son, Ronnie English; siblings, Carlton Lewis, Agnes Grogan, Viola Stewart, Inez Wray, Morris Lewis and Clarice Lewis. She is survived by two sisters, Edith Lewis Barnhart of Union Point, GA and Edna Lewis Pittard of Atlanta, GA; nephew, Randy Barnhart; great niece, Ellen Brock; great nephew; Jamie Barnhart; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Hal Burke officiating. Interment will follow at the Penfield Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Mark Higdon, Paul Jackson, Gene Lindsey, Ricky Newsom, Dee Lindsey and Richard Tolbert. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
