Col. William P. Rudland (retired)
William Pinckney III, age 77, died peacefully on May 26, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer.
William was born on May 16, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Bertha (Stewart) Rudland and William P. Rudland. He graduated from Queens College of New York, Columbia Law School and Harvard Business School. He joined the Judge Advocate General Corps in 1961, attaining the rank of Colonel before retiring in 1985 from Wright Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio as the Air Force Chief Trial Attorney. He was an acknowledged expert on government contract law, and in 1986, joined the legal department of Eaton Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio to head its government contract group. In 1990 he authored the best-selling government contract book, Defective Pricing. In 2000 he retired from Eaton and moved to Greensboro, Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Kathrin, of Greensboro, GA, son William Rudland (Kathleen) of Dayton, OH, daughter Linda McKelvey (Michael) of Yorktown, VA, and daughter Carol Maus (Jody) of Beavercreek, OH, step-children Matthew Kersting (Elizabeth) of Elgin, IL, and Megan Kersting of Upton, MA, sister, Dorothy Wyckoff (Charles) of Summerfield, FL, eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased in death by his first wife, Marilyn, and grandson, Brian Eastham.
He was an avid reader, writer, traveler and golfer. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 15 from 2:00-4:00 at the Carriage House in Harbor Club.
