Mr. William A. “Bill” Moore Jr., age 93, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, July 4, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. He was born on November 2, 1915 in Wilkes County to the late Dr. William Asa Moore, Sr. and Ruby Moss Moore. Bill spent most of his life in Greensboro, where he was associated with the City Pharmacy. After retiring there, he later owned Sears Catalog Store for a number of years. He was also manager of Oconee Propane Gas Company for six years. He was a member of San Marino Lodge #34 and was the oldest living past master at the time of his passing. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Greensboro, where he was very active in church affairs for many years and held many positions in the church. At one time he served on the City Council of Greensboro.
He is survived by his wife of nearly forty-five years, Hilda Lunsford Cheeley Moore, who he married in 1964; a step daughter, Janet Sue Cheeley of Juneau, Alaska; two step sons, Charles Ronald Cheeley of Mendham, NJ and David Lee Cheeley of Greensboro, GA; two nieces, Jane Merritt of White Plains, GA and Judy Moore of Augusta, GA; six grandchildren, Harrison Cheeley, Meme Hudgins and husband Ricky, Bayne Cheeley, Andrew Cheeley, Ashley Shippey and husband Patrick and Clancey Willingham; four great grandchildren, Mason Hudgins, Rylan Hudgins, Vivian Shippey and Tyson Shippey; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alice Moore Chapman; and two brothers, Alan Moore and Richard Moore.
Graveside Services will be held Monday, July 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Siloam Cemetery with Rev. Gary Nicholas, Rev. Ira McKeever and Rev, Michael Hardy officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Bayne Cheeley, Harrison Cheeley, Andrew Cheeley, Larry Smith, Jeffrey Merritt and Fred Cook. Honorary pallbearers are the Masons of San Marino Lodge #34. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night at McCommons Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.
