William Hill Lewis, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Wesley Woods Center in Atlanta, GA. He was a longtime resident of Greene County, residing at "Woodlawn" near Siloam and in Greensboro, GA. Hill Lewis, Jr. was born on September 7, 1917 to the late Dr. William Hill Lewis and Louise Kendrick Lewis. In 1940 he joined the United States Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, stationed in Charleston, SC, Bermuda, Macon, GA, Pensacola, FL, Puerto Rico, Jacksonville, FL and retired in 1969. Hill was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Johnnie Lewis, who died in October, 2000 and his brother, James Graham Lewis, Sr. who died in January 2000. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Betsy) Lewis of Atlanta, GA; son, William Hill Lewis III and his wife Marianne of Cocoa Beach, FL; and one brother, Dr. Kendrick Lewis of Madison, GA.
