Viola McElhannon Moody

Emma Viola McElhannon Moody, age 88, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. Mrs. Moody, a native of Greene County, was born on May 8, 1921, the daughter of the late John McElhannon and Lula Taylor McElhannon. She attended Greensboro High School. For a while she worked as a smash hand for Mary Leila Cotton Mill, then worked a number of years at Chicko Pee in Athens and later retired from Monroe Mills. When health permitted, she was an active member of West End Baptist Church. Some of the things she enjoyed the most were singing, gardening, going to church and family gatherings with her grandkids and great grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert Moody in January of 1986; a son, James Edward Moody; daughter, Hilda Annette McRoberts; grandson, Eric Bell; great granddaughter, Alicia Abril Simpson; son-in-law, Claude Lee Turner; Homer Douglas Moody, whom she raised as her own; and siblings, Tommy McElhannon, Frank McElhannon and Carrie Hightower. She is survived by a daughter, Edith Louise Turner of Greensboro, GA; three sons, Philip Paul Moody and wife Pam of Athens, GA, Horace Andrew Moody and wife Ethel of Lake Charles, LA and William Gary Moody of Denver, CO; twenty grandchildren; forty-two great grandchildren; and a host of great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Greensboro City Cemetery with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night at the McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
